In May 1924, Dr Theodor Stiebel invented the revolutionary coil immersion heater and founded ELTRON, the predecessor of today’s STIEBEL ELTRON. We are carrying on his legacy and continuing to write the history of water heating with our story. From the invention of the coil immersion heater to modern heat pumps and ventilation units with heat recovery, we have consistently brought you cutting-edge products that make life more comfortable. 

To celebrate this anniversary, we are holding a special competition on our Facebook page to showcase our historic milestones and will be giving away great prizes every month. The correct answers to the monthly competition questions can be found below.

1924 - Early days

Today STIEBEL ELTRON is a global company that operates all over the world. However, its beginnings 100 years ago were modest. Like many other young men in 1914, Theodor Stiebel had to enlist in the army after the outbreak of World War I. This meant that he had to postpone his undergraduate studies at the Technical College in the German city of Braunschweig. After the war, however, Theodor Stiebel successfully resumed his course and in 1920 graduated from the Technical University of Munich with a degree in engineering. He took his designs for kitchen appliances and an electric radiator to his uncle, Carl Reese, who then manufactured them under the Reese brand until 1944.

It was also thanks to this collaboration that Theodor Stiebel came up with a groundbreaking product, the coil immersion heater, which was revolutionary in its rapid heating and short cooling times. This was soon manufactured by his own company, “ELTRON Dr. Theodor Stiebel”, which shortly after its establishment went on to celebrate significant success and saw steady expansion.
